Data Center Migration

The FGI IT department is in the middle of a data center migration. What this means is that we currently have our hosting environment set up at one data center, and we will be moving it to another datacenter. This is very tricky business, because all of our client sites need to remain available during the entire process. Also, we're going to do this without setting up new hardware at the new data center.

Fortunately, we have several pieces of built-in redundancy in our current hosting environment, which will allow us to take down pieces of our hosting solution without affecting any client sites. So we will put the necessary pieces into place at the new data center, and begin migrating sites until they are all moved. Once all the sites are hosted at the new data center, we will then move the rest of the hardware to the new data center and add them into the environment.

There will be a change in the way things work at the new data center from an architectural standpoint, but what matters to our clients is that this move will make our hosting environment more fault tolerant, which inherently means more redundancy. This translates into greater site uptimes for our clients, and less maintenance work for FGI's IT team!
