DEMO Conference...John Cook's Blog

For you locals (seattle area), John Cook does a great Venture blog and articles for the Seattle PI. And while reading his blog, I came across a fantastic conference called DEMO, where new products, technologies and companies showcase their talents. Check out John Cook's entry here"¦.. John Cook's -DEMO ENTRY.

Since I am relatively new to the Startup industry (3+ years), I continue to come across conferences, seminars, and blogs that have been around for years. For example, DEMO has been around 16 years and helped launch the careers and companies after their presentation. Of course, following new internet technologies is like following the music industry. It is impossible to be exposed to EVERYTHING.

The site (DEMO WEBSITE) does a great job of showcasing all 77 of the 6-minute presentations. That's right, 77 presentations to judge. The downside to the conference? It costs $18,000 to enter; a tough amount to swallow for companies who are counting pennies when it comes to starting a new company. However, as John Cook noted in his blog, it also forces startups to achieve a final product/service milestone with a hard date in mind.

Go check out the site. You will definitely learn about some new technologies and the difficulty in a startup.

(from the DEMO.com site)
DEMO is the premier launch venue for new products, technologies and companies. For more than 16 years, DEMO has established a reputation for identifying and presenting to an elite audience the products most likely to have a significant impact on the marketplace and market trends in the coming year. Each product is carefully screened and selected by DEMO's Executive Producer, Chris Shipley, one of the top trend spotters in the personal technology product industry. DEMO is held two times a year; one in February, and one in September.
