google launches web browser chrome
in its most blatant attack at microsoft and the web browsing world, google will launch their own web browser. this new web browser will be called chrome and was released accidentally.
the new, free web browser will be available for downloading tuesday (sept. 2nd) after a comic book was prematurely released (source) . the browser will, possibly ironically, only work with microsoft operating systems. google is hard at work with linux and mac based browser capabilities.
a cool piece of local news is that google's developers and technology team is located in kirkland, washington, just blocks away from FGI's location. i guess we should have just asked more people at the local sandwich shop the latest google developer news.
here is a direct statement from google's blog;
at google, we have a saying: "launch early and iterate." while this approach is usually limited to our engineers, it apparently applies to our mailroom as well! as you may have read in the blogosphere, we hit "send" a bit early on a comic book introducing our new open source browser, google chrome. as we believe in access to information for everyone, we've now made the comic publicly available -- you can find it here. we will be launching the beta version of google chrome tomorrow in more than 100 countries. - sundar pichai, vp product management, and linus upson, engineering director
here is google's blog entry with the statement above.
here is a link to the comic book. and the link to download .
